Let's Hear It For Corporate Ethics
The law requires that employers hold jobs open for employees called to active reserve status, but
nothing more. And usually, nothing more is done. Reservists generally
take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being called up.
But, as Janeywan at Life In Westcliffe recently posted, Sears Roebuck is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits... including medical insurance and bonus programs...for called up reservist employees. They're doing this for up to two years.
With all of the corporate greed stories out there, it's nice to hear about something good happening. I usually shop at Sears some during the course of the year: tools and appliances mostly, but now I'm going to try to support them more. I hope you do too.
Post Note
Costco is another corporation that treats its employees well.

My hubby's company treated us well when he was called up - they kept his salary and benefits for three months and those folks were like my best friends while he was gone. They took really good care of us.
He's been activated again, but now his company has been bought out so we're kind of up in the air about things at the moment. We're hoping they're just as good - but they went to a privately owned company and we understand the owner is a bit greedy. We shall see!

That's impressive. Some good news for a change.
I can't believe I counted THAT bad. My excuse is that I posted it late at night, but I think I mess up count as often as I burn pans.
I think we all should show our high school class photos.

That is good to know. I'm planning on buying a new dishwasher soon, and will definitely head to Sears.
