I'm In!

Please forgive this moment of unabashed excitement and self promotion, but I just got word that three of my photographs are going to be part of the Regional Artists' New Works Exhibit at the Jacksonville Center For the Art's Hayloft Gallery.  There are exhibits there throughout the year...different themes.

The exhibit will run August 1st through September 28th and incorporates all types of media.  For those who don't know, our area is filled with many talented and, in some instances, well known artisans.  Potters, wood turners, painters, and photographers are all well represented here...not to mention musicians.

For this exhibit each artist could submit three pieces. When I decided to throw my hat into the ring, I had to decide which three I wanted to show. I thought about mixing it up with birds and animals or even a landscape. In the end though, I decided to keep it simple and went with three birds and chose three that I thought would be suitable in a gallery setting.  You might recognize the first two...I posted them on Wordless Wednesday here a while back.

Now I have to go find a frame...I think it'll have to be ready made since I have only a few days to get them to the Center, not to mention that I wasn't planning to pay for custom framing.  The tough part is that I have to find a frame that can accept a wire  across its back..that's what I was told it has to conform to.  That leaves out most metal ready made frames.

Wish me luck!

JUNE

did you take pictures before you retired??does Judy??I bet she is your biggest fan !! sk

That is awesome. If I lived closer I would come to the exhibit.

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

These photos are amazing! The birds are gorgeous and you have certainly done them justice with some lovely compositions. How did you get the dark background with the Flamingos?

Congratulations on being selected!

I confess the flamingos had some photoshop done to them…the background was mostly dark - they were taken in captivity and their setting was such – but I filled it in to make it completely black for effect. The gallery didn’t have any criteria that photographs couldn’t be altered. I have no problem doing that unless the photo is supposed to be journalism. Art is art!

Gorgeous - and congratulations! That is so cool! And good choices, too!
Cheers, Klaus

Congratulations! No wonder they were chosen...they are stunning! Check on American Frame.com....they do really nice work and have a wide variety and it's quite reasonable.

These are amazing. I love the flamingos. You don't need luck; the judges just need to open their eyes! Please keep us posted.

Fantastic news for three fantastic photos. Way to go, June, and congratulations!

Awesome and cool! You deserve to be in... those are absolutely stunning examples of your work. Congrats and best of luck!

Congratulations! They're beautiful photos. You might want to try Dick Blick's wood frames, they're beautiful and easy to wire. Go to dickblick.com and search for "blick gallery wood frames" I think that'll bring 'em up. :)

I totally can see why they got in! I love them! No, I LOVE them! Beautiful!

i feel like a proud mom, the photosare awsome. wish i could get to jacksonville. i always knew you were talented. it takes courage to expose your art to the world. AND YOU DID JUST THAT.
Love to both of you.....fw

June, I am just thrilled to pieces for you! You richly deserved this honor--your photos are stunning. Bravo!

Thanks all for all the pats on the back. It's nice to have a community of friends to share good news with! By the way, I went to Christiansburg today and found three perfect ready-made frames. Each is different and each suits the photo for it so much better than the frame I had them in. Now they look significant and ready for prime time :-)

I like the picture of the Tri-Colored Heron with it's shadow :P

Awesome work Aunt June! The photos are very beautiful. You obviously have a great eye! Best of luck with the show! Keep me posted...

That's great news and I can see why...those photos are very unique and original!

Oh I'm so happy for you. Your photos are wonderful! Congratulations!

Congratulations! Those are beautiful photos. I'm so excited for you. While I can't go see the exhibit, maybe I'll send my uncle since he lives in the area. :D

Way to go! That is excellent news.

Congratulations! A well deserved honor. And think of it not as self-promotion, but promotion of the event. And now that I've said that, I want to add that self promotion is not a bad thing nor is sharing your joy with the rest of us.
