Really scary! I would have run instead of thinking to take a picture. He looks as if he is looking forward to an appatizing meal! Just look at the colour of his mouth and his gleaming eyes. Brrrrrrr
Great shot!

once I was taking in the raw beauty of Fisheating C(reek in Venus and just thinking (with my 3 little dogs) what a tranquil place, when all of a sudden a loud whack and a dead tree from the other side of the river bank was now face to face with me - zig zag up the incline as fast as I could go- Later I told a lady and she said that old guy has been in that spot forever..I bet...

Better to use the zoom on your camera, hahahaha.
I have seen on TV that they can be very fast.

Yikes! I've never seen one in person in the wild, and it would definitely scare me! Great shot.

Lots of alligator/Crocodiles this week!
Indeed scary! I like to see them locked up (for my own selfish reasons)

I have friends who are dedicated environmentalists who related a tragic story to me. They had a friend visiting from out of town who wanted to take her dog with her on a trip to Everglades National Park. My friends tried to talk her out of the idea, but she wouldn't budge. As they were walking down the Flamingo Trail, an alligator snatched the little dog and carried him away. Definitely a major traumatic event for his owner. Alligators are very quick when they need to be. There are quite a few crocodiles in Everglades National Park as well as in the Florida Power & Light reserve east of the Park.

Oh, that brings back memories. I grew up in FL and had several encounters with alligators. What a great picture!

Wow! I can't even imagine being anywhere close enough to get a shot like this! Even 30 yards away would be too close for comfort for me. It made for a great photo though.
