The Cairns Birdwing is Australia's largest butterfly species. Males have a predominately black upper wing with emerald green flashes...as usual...the female lacks the green coloring. Sorry to report that I didn't go to Australia to see this fella, but rather , just to our local Butterfly World.

Hi June - finally had a chance to drop by and catch up. So many lovely photos to look at it was almost like opening a late Christmas gift. I am looking forward to heading back to Florida soon, where I can thaw out from the Chicago temps. Keep shooting!
