Shaynee is back up at Blackberry Ridge and from what Judy tells me, she's a very happy camper. What's not to like! The good news is that she ran down and up the hill chasing after the lawn mower. Last year she had gotten quite lazy...or so we thought. Turns out it was one of the many signs that she was sick. We just didn't realize it. It's just been amazing what a few doses of homeopathic medicine and a new diet did for her well being. I can't wait to see her there...
There's a community in Port Orange, Florida...just south of Daytona Beach...where people have not only garages, but hangers. In this community you're as likely to see planes taxiing down the roads as you are golf carts and cars. It's quite bizarre.
There is a golf course, but flying is THE thing for these residents, but the big feature is the community air strip.
The friend I was traveling with has friends who live here...a retired Delta Airlines pilot and his wife...so we stopped for a few days' visit on our way home from St. Augustine. Here's a couple of in flight shots that I took of planes coming in while standing at the end of the runway.
I just got back from my week in St. Augustine and Daytona Beach. As is often the case, I had a great time, but am truly in need of a rest! I'll be catching up on emails and unpacking...only to begin to start packing again for summer in Floyd later this month. Yikes! Judy and Shaynee are already there. The first report is that the trees survived the winter...even with the deer scraping damage...and that the grass looks as lush as it ever has.
I'm keeping this short for obvious reasons, but will pass along the content of an email I received. Ten good things to remember...
Eat more foods that grow ON trees and plants and less that is manufactured IN plants
Live with the three "E's" - energy, enthusiasm, and empathy
Play more games
Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day
Take a 10-30 minute walk daily, and while you walk, smile.
Don't compare yourself with others...you have no idea what their journey is all about
Don't have negative thoughts on things you can't control...instead invest your energy in the positive present moment
Don't take yourself too seriously...nobody else does
Don't waste your precious energy on gossip
Dream more while you're awake
I may not get to visit everyone right away, but I will...
I'm off for a week's visit to St. Augustine to attend this year's Birding FotoFest. I'm enrolled in several workshops...a variety of topics, but the one I'm focusing in on the most is lighting/exposure. I'm looking forward to it all...and on the way home...a couple of stops: first Daytona, then Merritt Island/Viera Wetlands. It should be a lot of fun.
I doubt I'll get much posted until I return. Until then, everybody stay happy and healthy!
This is the second of the only two antique car shots I liked from my visit to Ragtops Motorcars in West Palm Beach, Florida. The first was the Chevy Bel-Air tail light posted here.
That's me...the "cool" one on the far left with some of my dorm mates circa 1973 at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Florida...one of the three colleges I attended to get a four year degree. This was the middle one. I attended my junior year. I was majoring in sociology/education at the time, but the following year I changed to mass communications/broadcasting. I thought I'd make documentary films. Well, it didn't work out that I did. Life choices...life changes.
Each dorm had four rooms/eight people...nice and intimate. The girl on the far right was my roommate...an lass of Irish descent. We got along fine, but never stayed in touch. I was sort of here today, gone tomorrow. Always on the move...then and still now. It really was all my soul could do to stay put in Corrections for 25 years!
