Gosh, I usually do pretty well in getting all my annual doctor visits done and out of the way while in Florida. This year though, it's been a bit different and I'm having to go to doctors right up to departure date for one reason or another. It's been pretty much non-stop...and yet to come is a colonoscopy/endoscopy, a dental cleaning, and a follow up with the dermatologist...now that my nasty reaction to the skin cancer medication has subsided... and perhaps most fun of all...an endometrial biopsy. Anybody out there ever had one? Reading about it on the internet is scary for this low-pain tolerant girl. I'm planning to take some valium!

Can't say that I have. The colonoscopy was enough You know, they really should have patient gowns a bit larger. Some of us are a bit larger than petite...quite a bit larger. I knew I was sensing a draft on my backside.

Wow! I had an endometrial biopsy just a few weeks ago and my daughter has recently had both a colonoscopy and an endoscopy. Based on her experience, neither of the latter procedures is all that uncomfortable. The worst of it is the emptying out before the colonoscopy -- the actual procedure iw a breeze. You won't remember a thing until you come around with a raging appetite for whatever food you can get your hands on the quickest. And the endoscopy is a pffft! procedure -- it took maybe 10 minutes and she got good good drugs for the brief time she was under assault, so felt no discomfort.
The endometrial biopsy, OTOH, is done without anything to block the discomfort, so it is a bit more alarming. The good news, though, is that it only lasts a moment or two. Practice breathing ahead of time (just like for giving birth -- you want to be able to breathe shallow, even if your impulse is to clench up). It's really not that bad. I had a bit of spotting after and my uterus felt a bit sore for the rest of the day, and then everything was fine and dandy.
Good luck!

Oh June, so sorry to read about this. Family and friends have had some of those check ups and they didn't sound like fun but I heard they are bearable with enough medication and if you relax.
Wishing you well!

Can't speak to the endometrial biopsy, but I'm quite familiar with colonoscopies. They aren't bad at all - depending on your age, you are given varying amounts of drugs to sedate you. This last time (January), I was put under and didn't feel a thing. Younger folks get less sedation, so you will experience some mild cramping from the air that is pumped into you if you are under 55 but the procedure only takes about 10 minutes. Even the preparation isn't that bad - drink the solution one glass at a time - don't sip it. I think the worst thing is not being able to eat for up to 36 hours before. As Alice said, you won't remember a thing until you come around with a raging appetite! I hope you have a gastroenterologist who treats you like a human being and not a slab of meat!! That is really, really important - to feel comfortable with your doctor.
