Boy this week's theme could be taken in a hundred directions. The most obvious one is to memorialize my folks:
and
Dad
Mom
Dad
But going one step beyond the obvious...here's a photo that depicts a memory of a time, a place, and a family:
The family is mine, of course. Left to right: dapper Uncle Charlie, Mom, Gramp with his signature straw hat, me, and the Three Dog Night Night version of my brother. As bad as this picture is, it does a good job of revealing who each of us were.
The place... well that was a restaurant called The Kapok Tree...it was way, way out in the western part of the county...or so it seemed. It was the place to go for special occasions. Weddings were especially popular there because its grounds were lush and filled with Grecian pillars and statues.
Both family and restaurant are long gone...just hints of what was exists today. Uncle Charlie was the first to go...then Gramp...then Mom. My brother and I survive but our lives no longer intersect. The restaurant is gone and where it was is now part of Long Key Nature Center. A few of the Grecian pillars survive. And by the way...its location no longer seems that far "out "!

I think this is a most fitting photo for today's theme...especially on Mother's Day weekend. It's great to remember Family. I'm up too.

Your parents certainly were good-looking folks, June. And Uncle Charlie was indeed a dapper fellow! Thanks for sharing these memories.

I love old family photos; my Mother was a master snapshooter, album filler-upper.

Very touching! Love these pictures but they make me sad too. How time flies and memories overcome us. That's why I don't like looking at old photo's. So many people and places are no longer here.

My Mother used to take us kids to John Birch State Park in the summer time - we would stay at one of the motels on A1A for a week. We came in on 84 and at that time, it was all orange groves with fruit stands along the way. All gone. Change is hard to get used to isn't it? I mourn the loss of history and the lack of connectedness that the population explosion in South Florida has brought.

Jeff: I'm from California and can sing my sad songs about change, too.
I just read a long article about all the introduced species in Florida, in particular anacondas.

I love that you have so many photos to help your trips down memory lane. :) My mom has pretty much all of ours. :)
