Floyd Fest 9 took place this past week. It happens every July up on the Blue Ridge Parkway near here, but...for a variety of reasons...we've never gone. This year we finally did...at least for last day of it. The crowd size was starting to wane by this time, but there were still plenty of folks enjoying themselves...we among them. We got there around 10 a.m. and stayed until well past 5 p.m.
No matter what day, there's never a lack of performers to listen to...a diverse mix of music genres...performing on the many stages at the site. There are large ones of timber frame construction and state of the art sound systems...
This is the original permanent stage on the site...constructed by Dreaming Creek Timberframe Homes:
And this, at the opposite end of the site...the recently added Streamline Timberworks stage...a Floyd company:
And then, there are the small, more intimate stages like the Picking Porch:
and the shady Beer & Wine Garden stage...in a stand of trees and in the only area where alcohol can be consumed:
There's really something for everyone. And when you want to stretch your legs a bit, you can stroll around the artisan's booths, grab a bite to eat, or just take in the people having fun...
The group below was gathered to listen to the closing act: Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, who by the way, appeared on The Jimmy Kimmel Live show last night. Her voice/style reminds me a little of Heart or maybe Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane...turned Jefferson Starship. They were great.
