Photo Hunt - Painted

When visiting San Francisco I happened to hear about  California's Living New Deal Project.  The public art project was created as part of President Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal to lift the country out of the Depression.  Here are two  painted panels I found in a post office.

I know Virginia has a similar project in its post offices...I've been meaning to make a list and take a tour to visit them. 

Not that I'm thinking that depressions are good things, but it does seem to me that so many wonderful things ended up coming from the one we had in the 30s. Parks, buildings, roads (like my cherished Blue Ridge Parkway), art.

No Flashback Friday or Friday Fact...just this picture that seems to me to be a good symbol of my week...a bit askew.  Good news: the worm has turned.  My computer is back on track and even better, my mouth has calmed down quite noticeably in the last twenty-four hours.

The Memorial Amphitheater

The Memorial Amphitheater at Arlington National Cemetery is located directly behind the  Tomb Of The Unknowns where unknown American service members from World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam are interred.  Each was presented with the Medal Of Honor at the time of interment and those medals, along with the flags that covered their caskets, are on display in the amphitheater. 

It's mostly built of Imperial Danby marble from Vermont, although its display room uses Botticino stone imported from Italy.  The cornerstone was laid in 1915 by President Woodrow Wilson and contained fifteen items including a Bible and a copy of the U.S. Constitution.

Agnes Scott College

This architectural styling can be found at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia.  It's a serene campus that has buildings with wonderful architectural design.  It's actually on the National Register of Historical Places for its architecture.  

The college...originally called the Decatur Female Seminary...was established as a school for women in 1889 and was named in honor of Agnes Irvine Scott.  The school was renamed in her honor in 1890 as the Agnes Scott Institute.  Then, in 1906, it was chartered as Agnes Scott College.  It was the first institution of higher education in Georgia to receive regional accreditation.

I highly recommend this site to photographers.  I'm definitely going back next time I'm in the area.
