First Summer Bloom

The irises have stopped their show, but the daylilys are standing in the wings ready to take over for the summer.  Here's our first bloom:

We first planted daylilys at our shed.  In one year they got thick enough to thin and we planted those taken alongside our porch.  FYI, the fuller bunch of leaves to the left are irises.

It looks like they're on the verge of bursting out.
It's going to be so wonderful to sit at the table and be able to look at them.

There are gads of varities of passion flowers.  This is the Maypop (Passiflora incarnata)...also known as Purple Passionflower.  It's fast growing and is one of the hardiest species of passion flowers.

A Day With The Sniffles

Somewhere between there and here, I caught a cold.  As a result, I'm using most of my energy trying to breathe.  You know how that goes.  So activities are light today.  Aside from reading and TV and internet, my activity has been limited to fill the bird feeders and tidy up the hibiscus bushes. It's amazing how often the feeders need refilling...almost daily.  There are either a lot  of birds sharing our food or we've got some little piggies! As for the hibiscus, it's a daily ritual to pick the wilted hibiscus flowers to make room for the new ones. Each bloom seems to last just a day.  They have just a day to be vibrant...just a day to provide nectar to the bees and hummers. Their time, like ours, is precious.

On a previous post I injected one of my poems.  I guess I'll be doing that every so often.  Here's another that just came to mind:

Speck Of Dust

Incredibly minute particle of time
not even as a day is to a year
but a second in an hour of that day,
gone without notice
gone without mind.
such are our lives we hold so dear,
the dawn,
the dusk,
the night
all within a breath or beat
then sleep we meet
and rest we might.
