Today the sky was bright blue, the temperature was mild, and there wasn't an ounce of humidity...a perfect day for an outdoor event.  How lucky, since today we just happened to have tickets for an outside event: Roanoke's Big Lick Blues Festival.

A nice crowd turned out for music, ribs, and spirits.

There were several performers, but my favorite of the bunch had to be Stacy Brooks...

She reminded me of Diane Schuur. See what you think.  Here's a clip of Diane...

It's widely known that Floyd, Virginia is known for being part of bluegrass music's Crooked Road Trail.  What's not so known is that it attracts all genres of music.  This past weekend a band called The Blues Agent came to to the Pavilion at the Pine Tavern. 

Dogtown Pizza was there.  It's a traveling pizza oven that usually shows up at events  taking place in the area.  They make several varieties of  pizza...all of them delicious.  And of course there was a variety of wine and beer available in the Pavilion to go with them. 

People didn't hesitate to get up and shake a leg.  It was a nice mix of people...no teeny boppers though. That guy in the hat is a fixture around Floyd's music venues.  Be it clogging or swing, he does it effortlessly. 

Judy and I went with a couple who I first met through the local camera club.  We had a great time and look forward to the next event.

I mentioned the other day that my nephew Damon plays the guitar and that he played for us while here.  It made for a lovely Sunday morning.  We sat on the deck, me with my coffee and camera and he with his instrument. 

I found myself mesmerized by the sweet sounds and in watching his hands as they moved up and down the neck...  

 

What a gift to have!
